History

The Grand Traverse Kennel Club was formed in 1963 by a group of people in the area who owned, trained, and showed pure-bred dogs. They felt there was a need in the Grand Traverse area for an educational group based on our canine friends. The Club was sanctioned by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1964.

Club Objectives

**To further the advancement of all breeds of pure-bred dogs. **To do all in its power to protect and advance the interest of all breeds of dogs and to encourage sportsmanlike competition at dog shows and performance event. **To conduct dog shows, performance events, and sanctioned matches under the rules of the AKC.

**To help young people to be active in the community supporting their independence, respect, confidence and responsibility through dog related events.
